President Mohamed Nasheed today talked to the leader of the Tunisian opposition Mr. Moncef Marzouki with regard to the recent events that occurred in Tunisia.

 
During the telephone conversation, the President shared the Maldives’ experiences with regard to democracy consolidation and expressed the hope that democracy, human rights and the rule of law will prevail in Tunisia in the near future.
 
President Nasheed further condemned the use of violence against civilians during the protests and over the human rights abuses that had occurred in that country.
 

President Nasheed also underlined the importance of urgently holding free and fair elections, the restoration of democracy in Tunisia and the delivery of justice to the people of Tunisia.
