President Mohamed Nasheed, on Monday, visited Velidhoo of Noonu atoll and met with the people of the island.
The President briefed on government’s development projects for the islands. He also spoke on the progress of government’s key pledges and plans for the socio-economic development of the country.
In this regard, he noted that 14 hectares of land have been reclaimed in the island and said that revetment would begin soon. The President said that redevelopment of Velidhoo harbour was included in this year’s budget.
During his visit to Velidhoo, the President inquired about the general well-being of the people.
Later on the day, he visited Noonu Atoll Education Centre and met with senior officials of the school.
President Nasheed also opened a guest house in the island. Speaking at the ceremony, President noted that opening up the tourism sector would create more jobs and therefore facilitate island development. He also stressed the importance of proper hospitality and services for tourists.
President Nasheed returned to Male’ after concluding his visit to Noonu atoll on Tuesday.
