Stating that nearly a generation of Maldivian youth has been lost due to drug addition, President Mohamed Nasheed has reiterated that the government’s aim was to rehabilitate youth addicted to hard drugs back into the society.
Speaking in Vaadhoo of Gaaf Dhaal this morning, the President said youth development was a key pledge of the government.
The President said government was committed to strengthening its drug rehabilitation programmes, and it would revitalize its programmes to fight drug addiction among youth of Vaadhoo.
Outlining the government’s development programmes for Vaadhoo, the President said all arrangements were complete to begin construction of a harbour in the island this year.
He also revealed that Upper South Utilities Company would this year build a gas plant, which would create 150 more jobs in the island.
After concluding his visit to Vaadhoo, the President has now arrived in Thinadhoo of Gaaf Dhaal Atoll.
