President Mohamed Nasheed has this morning visited Hulhudhoo-Meedhoo of Addu Atoll, as part of the tour of Southern Atolls he began yesterday.

During the visit to Hulhudhoo-Meedhoo, the President launched the work of Hulhudhoo-Meedhoo harbour construction project and laying the island’s sewerage system.

Addressing the people of the island after inaugurating the work of these two projects, the President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to deliver its pledges.

He said delivering the government’s election pledges was one of the most important steps towards the development of the country. The President further said the government’s pledges, and subsequent development policies, were formulated after comprehensive consultation and discussion with people of all the islands in the country.

Speaking in this regard, the President underscored the government’s success in delivering its pledges especially in Hulhudhoo-Meedhoo.

President Nasheed revealed that the government has a programme in the national budget for 2011, passed by the People’s Majlis, to establish an institution specialized in teaching law in Hulhudhoo-Meedhoo. He expressed confidence of beginning the work of establishing the institution soon.
 
As part of his tour, the President last evening hosted a workshop on implementing programmes included in this year’s national budget in Hithadhoo.
