President Mohamed Nasheed has today met with Mr Nirj Deva, member of the European Parliament. The meeting was held this morning at the President’s Office.

Discussions were focused at the meeting on the developmental projects undertaken by the government and how the government planned to implement those projects.

Mr Nirj Deva commended the government’s efforts to consolidate democracy, and said that it had been a “remarkably courageous and determined effort” by the President to establish democracy in the Maldives.

He also said he was aware of the challenges that the Maldives faced during these early days of democracy and added that he would continue to seek support for the Maldives in the European Parliament, to overcome those challenges.

President Nasheed thanked Mr Deva for his contributions in the democratic reform process and expressed confidence that the Maldives would continue to receive his support and cooperation in its efforts to strengthen democracy.
