President Mohamed Nasheed has today inaugurated Maldives National Defence Force Central Area.

Speaking at today’s ceremony held at Hulhulhé, President Nasheed said that the government was working on making the National Defence Forces technically capable, in planning and managing all military staff and operations.

He also noted that many changes have been brought to the Defence Force over the past 8 months. In this regard, the President said, work was now being done to create 4 area commands and to provide services in a decentralised policy.

The Central Area was officially inaugurated with the unveiling the name board of the headquarters by President Nasheed. At the ceremony, the President presented the MNDF flag and S.O.P of Central Area to the Central Area Commander Brigadier General Ahmed Shahid.

After the inauguration of the Central Area, a separate function was held to present certificates to the MNDF officials who were involved in a special operation to help resettle people in Vilufushi. The certificates were presented by President Nasheed.

The President expressed his gratitude to all those who were involved in the operation.
