President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has called on all Maldivians to demonstrate their commitment to the nation through both words and actions, and to collectively uphold the values of respect and national unity.
The President made the remarks at a press briefing held at the President’s Office today, while speaking about the Government’s “Ih’thiraam Adhaa Kurumuge Qaumee Mash’roo’u” – (National Respect Initiative).
The President stated that the Cabinet, at its meeting on Sunday, approved matters related to the launch of the initiative. He explained that the initiative is part of the Government’s efforts to revive, promote and strengthen a culture of mutual respect within Maldivian society.
He further noted that the initiative is intended to be implemented nationwide, encompassing all inhabited islands of the Maldives.
The President also expressed concern that, while preparations were under way for the launch of the initiative, opposition political parties had discouraged their members from accepting the Government’s invitation to participate. He emphasised that matters of national interest should transcend political differences and called on all political parties to demonstrate a united commitment to initiatives that serve the interests and wellbeing of the nation.
The President urged all Maldivians to participate in and contribute to the successful implementation of the initiative, stressing the importance of collective responsibility in strengthening respect and national values.
The President also highlighted several initiatives being undertaken by the Government to commemorate the 900th anniversary of the Maldives’ embrace of Islam. In this regard, he announced a major nationwide initiative to install boards displaying Islamic reminders and dhikr along the main roads of every inhabited island across the Maldives.
