President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has expressed confidence that housing will be secured for the majority of citizens by approximately mid-2028 through the various projects being facilitated by the Government.
The President made the remarks this afternoon while responding to a question from a journalist about housing projects being implemented under the Government’s housing policy during a press meeting held at the President’s Office.
President Dr Muizzu noted that no housing projects initiated by previous administrations were completed within their respective terms, allowing citizens to move into their new homes. He expressed confidence that the housing projects initiated by the current Administration, which are at various stages of implementation, will enable a large number of citizens to move into their homes during his term.
The President also stressed that the Government’s housing pledge is not being fulfilled solely through the construction of flats. Instead, the Government is facilitating opportunities such as accessible housing loans and other forms of financial assistance to help citizens secure housing.
He added that further details regarding these opportunities would be announced by the relevant institutions.
During the briefing, President Dr Muizzu also shared an overview of major land reclamation projects being undertaken by the Government in the Greater Malé Area in connection with its housing initiatives.
