The Secretary-General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), His Excellency Md. Golam Sarwar, paid a farewell call on His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu this morning at the President's Office.
During the meeting, the President expressed his gratitude for the Secretary-General's dedicated service and support throughout his tenure. He emphasised the crucial role SAARC plays in both regional and international spheres. Reaffirming the Maldivian Government's commitment to strengthening the association, the President commended the Secretary-General for his leadership.
The SAARC Secretary-General expressed his sincere appreciation for the steadfast cooperation received from the Maldives. He further highlighted the Maldives' importance to SAARC as a founding member, conveying his gratitude to the President for his efforts to revitalise the organisation.
Both the President and the Secretary-General reflected on key SAARC initiatives and discussed pathways to deepen regional integration and collective progress moving forward.
Concluding the meeting, the President extended his best wishes to the Secretary-General for his future endeavours and expressed his eagerness to continue advancing close cooperation amongst member states.
The Maldives is a founding member of SAARC, which was formally established with the signing of the SAARC Charter in Dhaka on 8 December 1985.
