President Nasheed has said that it was the Government’s policy to develop Hanimaadhoo as a commercial hub and develop Hanimaadhoo Airport as an international airport. Addressing the people of Hanimaadhoo during the last leg of his tour to South and North Thiladhunmathi Atolls, President Nasheed also said that the Government has corporatized the Hanimaadho Airport to facilitate its expansion.
President Nasheed noted that four international companies have already expressed interest to jointly operate the Airport with the airport corporation. He said that most of these companies wished to develop a large duty free complex with the Airport.
The President said that he would ensure the provision of better electiricity and water and sewerage systems in the island through the Upper North Utilities Company.
President Nasheed has returned Male’ last evening after concluding his tour.
