President and Commander-in-Chief of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Dr Mohamed Muizzu, officiated the oath-taking and firearms presentation ceremony for the graduates of the 72nd and 73rd batches of the MNDF Basic Training Course, held at the K. Girifushi parade ground today.

The oath was administered to the graduates by High Court Judge Uz Hussain Mazeed, following which President Dr Muizzu presented the newly sworn-in soldiers with their firearms.

The courses were conducted from 7 March to 11 June 2026, with the 72nd batch completing their training at the Addu Training Centre under the MNDF Southern Area Command, and the 73rd batch at Girifushi.

The Basic Training Course is designed to equip new recruits with the fundamental knowledge and skills required to serve across various military branches. Its core objective is to cultivate disciplined, obedient, physically fit and patriotic soldiers who uphold high moral standards.

Following the ceremony, President Dr Muizzu visited the Girifushi land reclamation site to observe the progress of the ongoing work. A key component of the President's strategic vision to modernise the military and expand training infrastructure, the project encompasses land reclamation, coastal protection and harbour upgrading works, and is aimed at enhancing the operational capabilities of the MNDF.
