President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended his congratulations to the Maldives scouting community on the 70th anniversary of scouting in the country, describing the movement as a model for humanitarian service.
In his address commemorating the occasion, the President praised the role of scouting in national and social development. He noted that scouting provides a practical platform for young people to develop moral values, confidence, self-reliance and leadership skills. He added that the movement serves as a unifying force, connecting young people across the country and fostering connections across communities.
The President highlighted that scouting cultivates values such as volunteerism, leadership, courage, preparedness and humanitarian service – values that are strongly encouraged in Islam – describing them as as qualities that inspire society as a whole and cultivate the spirit of service.
Reflecting on his own experiences as a scout, the President noted the positive influence the movement had during his formative years.
He also acknowledged the efforts of the Scout Association of Maldives in promoting scouting throughout the nation and reaffirmed the Government's full support for its work. The President further recognised the contributions of those who have served the Association and the scouting movement over the past seven decades and extended his congratulations to the entire scouting community.
Concluding his address, the President expressed hope that scouting would continue to strengthen the bonds it has established, promote mutual support and nurture a stronger spirit of community service across the country.
The President also shared a message on his X account to mark the occasion, extolling scouting as a service that is widely recognised and respected; one in which the entire nation takes pride. He further noted that scouting is the country's largest volunteer movement, fostering a strong brotherhood of dedicated individuals committed to serving the nation.
Additionally, the President shared photographs on his Instagram account from his time as a Cub Scout and Scout, launching the “Let’s see the Scout in you” challenge to encourage the public to share memories of their involvement in scouting.
