His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended felicitations to His Excellency Ilham Heydar oglu Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and His Excellency Ali Hidayat oglu Asadov, Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on the occasion of Azerbaijan's Independence Day.
In his letter to President Aliyev, the President highlighted that the two nations are approaching the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and expressed hope that the enduring bilateral ties founded on mutual respect, trust and cooperation will continue to prosper in the years ahead.
To Prime Minister Asadov, the President noted the strong and stable ties between the Maldives and Azerbaijan, evident in the priority given to mutual understanding and joint efforts to advance cooperation. He expressed confidence that the partnership would be further strengthened in areas of shared interest for the common benefit of both nations.
President Dr Muizzu extended his personal best wishes for the good health and wellbeing of both leaders, as well as for the continued progress, peace and prosperity of the people of Azerbaijan.
The President reiterated these sentiments on his official X account, observing that Azerbaijan has come a long way since its independence, charting its development in line with the aspirations of its people.
Azerbaijan observes its Independence Day annually on 28 May, commemorating the declaration of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in 1918.
