President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the noble ties of kinship formed within families are bonds that can never be broken, and that building strong families is the most important foundation for strengthening a nation’s social fabric.
The President made the statement in a social media post shared today to mark the International Day of Families. He noted that the fact that Muslims are commanded to treat their parents with kindness after affirming the principle of Tawhid (the oneness of Allah) reflects the great value and importance Islam places on the family.
The President also extended his greetings to all Maldivian citizens on this special occasion and prayed that they may lead happy lives filled with the love and care of their families.
First Lady Sajidha Mohamed also shared a message on social media to commemorate the International Day of Families. In her message, she said that the love, compassion and support provided by families are essential to building a strong society and securing a brighter future.
She further emphasised the importance of strengthening support systems for families, including parents, children and others carrying family responsibilities, in the face of emerging social and economic challenges.
The First Lady noted that promoting the wellbeing and development of families is a vital investment in strengthening the foundations of the nation and ensuring a bright and prosperous future.
The International Day of Families is observed worldwide on 15 May.
