President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has affirmed that his Administration is committed to delivering housing to the greatest number of citizens in Maldivian history.
He made the remarks while addressing a victory rally at the headquarters of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC), held to celebrate the party’s success in the Local Council Elections.
The President stated that the Government’s foremost policy priority is to provide adequate housing for every citizen and to improve their quality of life.
Referring to housing initiatives announced by previous administrations ahead of elections, President Dr Muizzu noted that many citizens were ultimately unable to benefit from those programmes, even after the elections had concluded. In contrast, he said his Administration is committed to strengthening the national housing policy and becoming the administration that delivers homeownership to the greatest number of citizens.
He also highlighted the importance he has consistently placed on completing housing projects and ensuring that citizens are able to benefit from them without delay, including during his tenure as Minister of Housing in previous administrations.
President Dr Muizzu said that, upon assuming office, his Administration made it a top priority to fulfil the aspirations of citizens who had been allocated plots in lagoon areas under the previous administration by undertaking land reclamation and resuming stalled social housing projects.
He added that these efforts are being carried out alongside numerous housing initiatives launched by the current Administration across the atolls. The President further announced that physical works on several additional housing projects are scheduled to commence later this year.
