President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that commemorating Thalassaemia Day reminds society to uphold humanity and compassion, and to build a strong nation by extending support and solidarity to every Maldivian child and family. The President made the statement in a message posted on his official X account on the occasion of World Thalassaemia Day.
In his message, the President also highlighted the Government’s responsibility to ensure the provision of essential healthcare and social protection for all individuals living with thalassaemia and their families.
On the occasion, First Lady Sajidha Mohamed also shared a message praying for thalassaemia patients. In her message, she described kindness and caring words as half of the treatment, and prayed for the speedy recovery of every child receiving treatment for thalassaemia, with the love, support and compassion of the community.
World Thalassaemia Day is marked annually on 8 May. Creating a supportive environment for the treatment of thalassaemia patients and their families is a priority for the Government.
