The Special Cabinet Committee, formed in response to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, has assured the public that despite the temporary ceasefire, the Committee will continue its work without interruption. This update was provided during a press briefing held at the President's Office today.

Speaking at the briefing, Committee Chair and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel affirmed that the Committee will continue to work tirelessly to strengthen ongoing efforts to ensure food and fuel security, maintain supply chains, and overcome any potential economic downturns.

Elaborating further, Minister of Finance and Planning Moosa Zameer stated that despite the sharp rise in fuel prices, scheduled fuel and cooking gas shipments are expected to arrive without disruption. He added that should there be any challenges in obtaining fuel from Oman, arrangements are in place to purchase fuel via Singapore.

The Minister also outlined the Government's proposed austerity measures, noting that official trips abroad will be restricted to funded trips only and that State-Owned Enterprises and Government offices have been instructed to halt all non-essential spending. He added, however, that these measures will be introduced without disrupting the delivery of essential public services.

Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed stated that bottlenecks in clearing goods had been addressed over the past week with the collaborative support of relevant authorities, with further efforts ongoing. He also mentioned that discussions are underway with seven different markets to import essential commodities alongside 23 other types of goods.

On preparations for the Hajj pilgrimage, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said that all Hajj-related arrangements are well underway, with the first group of pilgrims scheduled to depart on 15 May.

Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim highlighted ongoing efforts with airlines to promote the destination. Meanwhile, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen noted that some previously suspended flights have gradually resumed, with several more airlines expected to restart operations, alongside the continued operation of air cargo services. He added that, at this stage, the Government's priority is to limit losses rather increase flight frequency.

Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed assured that the Government is in contact with students residing in conflict zones, working to ensure their safety and ready to take appropriate action should any risks arise.
