President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed attended a ceremony held to celebrate key milestones and achievements of the National Fertility Centre at Dharumavantha Hospital, today.

Upon arrival at event, the President and First Lady were received by the Minister of Health, Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, together with senior officials from the Malé City Group of Hospitals and the National Fertility Centre.

During the ceremony, a presentation was delivered highlighting the progress and achievements of the National Fertility Centre over the past year.

Providing fertility treatment services, including in vitro fertilisation (IVF) and intrauterine insemination (IUI), through the Aasandha scheme is a key pledge of the President. In line with this commitment, fertility treatment services are now also accessible overseas through Aasandha in collaboration with the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA).

The National Fertility Centre at Dharumavantha Hospital was officially opened in November 2024. The first child conceived through IVF at the Centre was born on 7 January 2026.
