His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended warm greetings to Her Excellency Smt Droupadi Murmu, President of the Republic of India, and His Excellency Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of the Republic of India, on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day of India.
In his letter to the President, President Dr Muizzu noted that six decades of friendship between the Maldives and India stand on a strong foundation of mutual understanding, trust, and respect.
In his letter to the Prime Minister, the President recalled with pride the tangible progress the partnership has delivered for the people of both countries. He conveyed appreciation for India's leadership in the region under the Prime Minister's stewardship and reaffirmed the Government's commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and advancing practical collaboration to serve mutual interests in the years to come.
President Dr Muizzu further expressed deep appreciation for India's continued support for the socioeconomic development of the Maldives. He extended personal best wishes for the good health and wellbeing of both leaders, and for the continued progress and prosperity of the people of India.
On his official X account, the President noted that Republic Day signifies India's commitment to freedom, democracy and good governance, and expressed hope to continue strengthening ties that benefit both nations.
India's Republic Day is observed annually on 26 January to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India and the country's transition to a republic in 1950.
