President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has met with cargo vehicle drivers operating at the Malé Commercial Harbour. The meeting was held on Thursday at the President's Office.

At the meeting, the drivers shared the challenges they faced in providing their services and deliberated on possible solutions.

They noted significant challenges in securing designated parking areas for cargo vehicles near the port, as well as difficulties related to the transfer of vehicle ownership. They also highlighted problems in sourcing spare parts—often stored in bonded warehouses—which resulted in delays, in addition to issues with lorry queues.

Discussions centred on expediting the development of the goods clearance application, which is being designed to support the Administration's digitalisation efforts. The meeting also covered the Government-directed decommissioning of old vehicles and the expedited registration of imported vehicles intended as replacements. The drivers further pressed for formal recognition of their work, requesting a Government-backed document signifying their role and designation.

In response, the President assured them that the Government would work closely with the relevant authorities to identify effective solutions to the concerns raised.
