His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has called upon the international community to translate solidarity into genuine and meaningful action, as the Maldives marks the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

In his message, the President noted that the Maldives has observed this day since 1982 but said the occasion is now overshadowed by grief. He condemned the continued aggression and illegal settlement expansion by Israel, noting that the fragility of ceasefires shows that brief pauses in violence cannot bring lasting security.

Highlighting the suffering on the ground, the President said instability shapes daily life for Palestinians, with lives lost and homes destroyed. He emphasised that peace is not just the absence of conflict, but the presence of justice, and that no people should have to seek dignity alone.

President Dr Muizzu reiterated the Maldives’ firm support for the recognition of Palestine as an independent State, based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. He further asserted that Palestine must be recognised as a full member of the United Nations and that its sovereignty and economic viability must be guaranteed unconditionally.

The President echoed his support for Palestine on his official X account, noting that the Maldives regards Palestine’s struggle as a shared concern, reflecting a deep moral commitment to the Palestinian people.

The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is observed annually on 29 November.
