First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has stated that women are the driving force behind the revitalisation and continued strength of any Ummah or nation. She made these remarks while addressing the Rehendhi Award 2024–2025 ceremony held tonight.

Reflecting on the central role of mothers, the First Lady noted that every individual’s first teacher, guide, refuge, and school is their mother. She emphasised that women carry the profound responsibility of nurturing individuals of strong moral character, capable of contributing meaningfully to the nation’s progress. The First Lady urged women to recognise the enduring significance of this role and to fulfil it with diligence, integrity, and purpose.

Emphasising the expanding domestic, professional, and social responsibilites of women, the First Lady underscored the importance of technological proficiency, entrepreneurial innovation, and preparedness for emerging political opportunities. She added that historically, Maldivian women have long been educated, intellectual, discerning, foresighted, dignified and fully capable of shouldering the responsibilities entrusted to them for generations.

Acknowledging that the award ceremony celebrates the abilities, perseverance, resilience, and achievements of Maldivian women across a broad range of fields, the First Lady extended her heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all the honourees.

Fourteen distinguished women and a nonprofit organisation received the Rehendhi Award for 2024–2025. The First Lady presented the recipients with awards and commemorative brooches in recognition of their outstanding service.

Conferred by the Ministry of Social and Family Development, the Rehendhi Award recognises women who have made exemplary contributions across key sectors of national service, as well as individuals and organisations working to advance gender equality and protect women’s rights in the Maldives.
