The operators of Shangri-La Villingili Resort have briefed President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on the latest developments at the property as it prepares to reopen.
The President visited the resort as part of his ongoing tour of Fuvahmulah and Addu City. During the visit, the resort’s management delivered a presentation outlining the progress of ongoing works in preparation for the reopening, scheduled for 31 December.
The presentation detailed refurbishments to the water villas and restaurants, as well as enhancements to the decking and other facilities. The management also noted the extensive repair and maintenance work completed during the period of closure.
Following the briefing, President Dr Muizzu was given a guided tour of the resort. He was accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Environment, Cabinet Ministers, and several Members of Parliament representing the constituency.
Shangri-La Villingili, which first opened in 2009, has been closed since March 2020 following the COVID-19 pandemic. The luxury resort features 284 beds and remains one of the Maldives’ flagship high-end destinations.
