President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has confirmed that the land reclamation project in K. Dhiffushi – including the construction of a bund wall, shore protection works, and a sea wall – will be completed within 12 months, adding 23 hectares of land to the island. He made the announcement while addressing residents of Dhiffushi as part of his ongoing tour of Maaleatholhu.
Referring to the land reclamation and shore protection project inaugurated today, the President noted that Dhiffushi is one of the most densely populated islands, making land reclamation a matter of significant public interest. He added that the newly reclaimed area will be utilised for housing, local tourism, and infrastructure development.
Several development initiatives commenced in Dhiffushi today, including the commencement of practical work on the island’s waste management facility, a fitness and recreation centre, a multi-purpose school hall, and other infrastructure projects. Service provision from the new STELCO powerhouse was launched today as well.
The President further announced plans to construct a new mosque and police station, as well as the installation of bouys for sports fishing– all scheduled for completion this year. He also revealed that US dollar ATM services will be made available on the island before the end of March next year.
President Dr Muizzu assured that the 2026 national budget includes allocations for the development of a volleyball court, a handball court, road development, and the upgrading of the island’s health centre into a 24-hour facility.
