The new High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the Maldives, His Excellency Dr MD Nazmul Islam, presented his Letter of Credence to the President, His Excellency Dr Mohamed Muizzu, at a ceremony held this afternoon at the President’s Office.
The High Commissioner was escorted from Republic Square to the President’s Office in a traditional cultural procession, Haiykolhu, accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band.
Following the presentation of credentials, the President and the High Commissioner reflected on the longstanding bonds of friendship between the Maldives and Bangladesh. They emphasised the deep-rooted people-to-people connections and the history of mutual support and cooperation shared by the two nations.
Discussions also centred on enhancing collaboration in key areas such as agriculture, economic development, higher education, and trade and investment. Both parties affirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations for mutual benefit.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Bangladesh were established on 22 September 1978.
