President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed that his Administration remains fully committed to advancing the health sector in Th. Thimarafushi, stressing that fulfilling the aspirations of citizens is his responsibility. He made the remarks while addressing residents of Thimarafushi, the final stop on his tour of four atolls.

The President acknowledged delays in the island’s hospital project and pledged to resolve the issue, assuring that once completed, residents would have access to a fully equipped facility. In the meantime, he said the Administration would upgrade the existing health centre to a level-four facility within three months, citing the urgent need for improved healthcare on the island.

On infrastructure development, the President assured that the harbour would be expanded under planned initiatives, providing a major boost to local development. He noted that road development projects would also contribute significantly to the island’s progress.

Addressing housing, the President stated that electricity, water, and sanitation networks would be connected to the housing units already completed, with the aim of making them habitable by next Ramadan.

The President also announced that the down payment for government housing units would be reduced to MVR 10,000, alongside further reductions in monthly rent. In addition, a project for 100 new housing units is planned for inclusion in the 2026 budget.

Highlighting youth and sports development, the President confirmed plans to develop the football ground and upgrade the existing youth centre into a fitness and recreation centre using the funds alloted in the budget.

He also announced that ID card and passport services would be introduced in Thimarafushi from November, while waste management services would be handed over to WAMCO.
