President Dr Mohamed Muizzu called for equal emphasis to be placed on intangible progress alongside infrastructure development, asserting that true national advancement stems from upholding values that promote a good quality of life, strong interpersonal relationships, and responsible conduct.

Speaking to the community of Th. Veymandoo during his ongoing tour of the inhabited islands of Kolhumadulu Atoll, the President highlighted the priority his Administration accords to Islamic principles and the initiatives undertaken to uphold them since he assumed office.

Commemorating 899 years since the Maldives embraced Islam, President Dr Muizzu reflected on the unifying role of faith throughout the nation’s history. He emphasised the importance of preserving that unity in the present day and urged citizens to honour the sacrifices of their ancestors and national heroes by instilling those values in future generations. He added that such continuity could only be achieved through the proper development of the mind.

Building on this point, the President emphasised that infrastructure development alone is not enough; it must be accompanied by the cultivation of the right mindset and values.

He further stressed that Islamic faith must be deeply rooted in both the heart and the mind, urging all Maldivians to embrace Islam as the nation’s greatest source of pride, to uphold its values, and to ensure their transmission to future generations.

Reaffirming that championing Islam remains a central priority for his Administration, the President went on to outline initiatives undertaken over the past two years to advance Islamic education. These include the establishment of branches of the Islamic University across the country to support Quranic learning.

He concluded his address with a prayer for the Maldives to remain a Muslim nation for all time.
