President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that a second round of applications for loans to install Refrigerated Sea Water (RSW) systems will open ahead of this year’s Fishermen’s Day. He made the announcement while addressing residents of Th. Hirilandhoo during his ongoing tour of the atoll.

The President highlighted that Hirilandhoo residents had secured a relatively higher percentage of loans in the first round of the scheme and revealed that 200 loan opportunities would be available in the second round. He further confirmed that a cold storage facility for the island would be included in next year’s budget, with construction scheduled to begin in January.

Acknowledging Hirilandhoo’s active and committed workforce, the President assured residents that additional land would be reclaimed for industrial purposes on the island. He added that the development plan would incorporate the land-use strategy for the reclaimed area.

Several development projects were inaugurated today, including roadworks, the construction of a new Council Secretariat, and the groundbreaking of a new mosque and a fitness and recreation centre. An agreement was also signed for the island’s harbour upgrade, with the President assuring accelerated progress.

He also gave assurance that the ongoing school development project would be completed in time for the new academic year, fully equipped with enhanced resources. In addition, he announced that a football ground would be developed next year.
