President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that a fixed percentage of State revenue will be allocated to the judiciary from the 2026 Budget onwards.
The announcement was made today on his official X account.
In his post, the President emphasised that financial independence is essential to safeguarding judicial independence. To this end, the Cabinet has deliberated and agreed to introduce major reforms that will grant the judiciary both financial and administrative autonomy in next year’s budget.
Under the new framework, a designated share of State revenue will be allocated and disbursed as a block grant in line with established procedures. The President explained that this approach will ensure full financial independence for the judiciary, enabling it to exercise complete authority over the use of the allocated funds.
He further noted that the allocation will surpass previous ceilings set for the judiciary, and confirmed that preparations are already in progress to implement the legal, technical, and administrative measures required to enforce the new system.
