The Non-Resident Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to the Maldives, Her Excellency May-Elin Stener, presented her Letter of Credence to His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, at a ceremony held this morning at the President's Office.

The Ambassador was escorted to the President’s Office from Republic Square in a cultural procession, “Haiykolhu,” with the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band.

Following the presentation of credentials, the President and the Ambassador engaged in discussions on matters of mutual interest, including trade and tourism. President Dr Muizzu noted that the Maldives welcomes investment in the renewable energy sector, with a national goal of generating 33 per cent of its energy from renewable sources. He extended an invitation to Norwegian companies to explore investment opportunities in this area. The President also highlighted the potential for strengthening educational cooperation, including creating avenues for Maldivian students to pursue higher studies in Norway.

The Ambassador expressed interest in these areas and affirmed her commitment to further strengthening the friendly bilateral relations between the two nations.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Norway were established on March 26, 1984.
