President Mohamed Muizzu has appointed former President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan as Special Envoy of the President. The appointment ceremony was held at the President’s Office on Monday.
Dr Mohamed Waheed served as President and Vice President of the Republic of Maldives. He served as a Member of Parliament for Malé in the People’s Majlis and held several senior positions within the Ministry of Education. He has also held various roles with UNICEF.
Following the appointment, President Dr Muizzu met with Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan.
Speaking at the meeting, President Muizzu described Dr Waheed as a seasoned diplomat and encouraged him to utilise his extensive experience to advance the Maldives’ diplomatic interests. He also urged him to explore economic opportunities with other nations and assured him of his full support in fulfilling the responsibilities of the role.
Dr Waheed expressed his gratitude to President Dr Muizzu for the opportunity to serve the nation, assuring that he would carry out his duties with dedication. He emphasised that his work would be guided by the President’s vision and direction.
Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan has been appointed to the position without remuneration.
