President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has expressed hope that his official visit to Malaysia will help strengthen the close bilateral relations between the two countries and ease a range of administrative difficulties faced by Maldivians living in Malaysia.

Speaking in an interview prior to his departure, President Dr Muizzu said he was confident that the visit would further strengthen the close ties between the Maldives and Malaysia. He noted that Malaysia hosts the largest population of Maldivians living abroad and highlighted the importance of easing their administrative burdens with stronger support from the Government.

During his trip, the President will participate in a Business Forum organised by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, which he emphasised would create new opportunities for investment and further economic collaboration.

The President confirmed that official discussions would take place during the visit, focusing on key areas of mutual interest. He expressed confidence that the strong existing relationship between the Maldives and Malaysia would contribute to the success of these talks.

President Dr Muizzu also shared that he would be meeting with members of the Maldivian community in Malaysia to listen to their concerns and gain a better understanding of the issues they face. He stated that arrangements were being considered to provide essential services, including National Identity Card and passport services, to Maldivians residing in Malaysia. He assured that the Government would continue efforts to enhance consular services and improve facilities for Maldivian students.

Emphasising the importance of addressing the concerns of Maldivians abroad, the President reaffirmed his commitment to engaging with the community and finding sustainable solutions.

The visit also includes the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance cooperation in several priority sectors, along with scheduled exchanges of diplomatic notes.

President Dr Muizzu is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising Cabinet Ministers and senior Government officials.
