President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated that the Government has always prioritised justice and that no citizen will be subject to discrimination. He made these remarks during a media interview at Velana International Airport, prior to his departure for Malaysia.

In the interview, the President announced the establishment of the Special Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the Incident in Malé on 18 April 2025. The commission has been tasked with establishing the facts surrounding the incident, reviewing the actions of the relevant institutions, identifying necessary corrective measures, and ensuring a fair and impartial investigation. He assured the public that no obstacles would hinder the commission’s work, and that all relevant matters would be thoroughly investigated. He emphasised that all individuals involved would be questioned and no avenue left unexplored. The commission has also been authorised to seek international assistance if necessary.

The President further stated that, regardless of the identity of the perpetrator, justice must be served in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of the country. He underscored that no one is above the law, especially in matters concerning the administration of justice and the upholding of the rule of law.

He also made clear that discrimination and cruelty against any citizen are not, and will never be, among his values or principles. From the outset of his presidency, he stated, his guiding principle has been to uncover the truth and ensure justice. He affirmed that the Commission’s work is being conducted transparently and responsibly, with the expectation that no one will be subjected to discrimination, all relevant questions will be addressed, and the truth will come to light.

Highlighting the importance of peace, justice, and fairness, the President stated that his commitment extends beyond responding to individual incidents. He affirmed that his ultimate goal is to uphold justice, the rule of law, and lasting peace across all aspects of life.
