President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has established the Maldives Transportation Safety Board, which will operate under the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation. This decision took effect on 8 April 2025.
In line with Section 116 of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives, the establishment of the Board was announced by the President’s Office in Directive No. 7/2025.
This move reflects the President’s recognition of the need for a dedicated Government agency to investigate incidents and accidents across the land, sea, and civil aviation sectors, with the aim of enhancing the overall safety and security of the Maldives' transportation system.
The main functions of the Board are outlined in the Directive issued today.
As specified in the Directive, all correspondence addressed to the Maldives Transportation Safety Board should use the number 501 in the numbering system for State agencies.
