His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met Councillor Abigail Marshall Katung, the Lord Mayor of Leeds, and Tracy Brabin Mayor of West Yorkshire during the President’s visit to the United Kingdom.

During the meeting, the President briefed on the Administration’s priorities and development initiatives, and discussed potential avenues for collaboration with the City of Leeds on expertise to navigate existing development challenges for the Maldives.

President Dr Muizzu outlined his administration’s prioritises for nation-wide digitalisation of public services. Additionally, the President highlighted the plans to improve transportation including road reconstruction.

Speaking about tourism cooperation, the President noted that his visit came about with the new strategic partnership with Liverpool Football Club and expressed hopes that it would further boost the country’s tourism industry.

At the meeting, the Lord Mayor of Leeds and participants highlighted the city’s initiatives and discussed how they are working on various areas of development including public transport, sports cooperation, cultural cooperation and climate financing. They also expressed their willingness and explored ways to collaborate and contribute to the development of the Maldives.

The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to fostering partnerships that promote mutual growth and prosperity.
