President and First Lady attend Huffaz Graduation Ceremony

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed attended the Huffaz Graduation Ceremony at the Islamic Centre, organised by the National Centre for the Holy Quran.

During the ceremony, President Dr Muizzu presented certificates to the 22 graduating Huffaz. In line with the Administration’s special focus on promoting religious affairs, the teachings of the Holy Quran have expanded to the atolls.

Following the Government's decision to conduct Quran classes on every inhabited island, free classes are now being conducted in 10 mosques nationwide. Efforts to resume classes at various branches of the National Centre for the Holy Quran, which had previously been stalled, have been successful. The Government has recruited Quran teachers from abroad for six islands to ensure the continuity of these classes. Additionally, Quran classes in Hulhumalé have been enhanced, and a new centre has been inaugurated in Villimalé, where classes have commenced.

Currently, 630 students are enrolled in the Government’s hifz programme. The Government has decided to double the allowance paid to Huffaz and elevate the criteria for their certification to an advanced level.

The Government has also initiated a programme titled “Tahsinul Quran” to improve the quality of Quran recitation among imams of mosques, and a programme titled “Maqamat Ul Quranil Kareem” to develop and promote the skills of the Holy Quran. The government has also ended Zakat funding for the National Quran Competition, bringing more prestige to the competition by directly funding it through the state budget. Additionally, the Government plans to host a separate Quran competition for Huffaz, starting this year.
