President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that all individuals registered with the Maldives Hajj Corporation for this year’s Hajj will be able to undertake the pilgrimage. He made the announcement in a post shared on his official account on the social media platform X.
Amendments to the regulations governing Maldivians attending the Hajj pilgrimage under the Maldives Hajj Corporation Limited were introduced in January. Under these new amendments, priority will be given to individuals undertaking Hajj for the first time, as well as those over the age of 65 who have yet to perform the pilgrimage. The amendments also allow for the inclusion of a caretaker for individuals over the age of 75, taking their health status into account. In such cases, preference will be given to a family member of the selected individual. Additionally, those who have previously performed Hajj will only be eligible to do so under the Corporation’s arrangements after a period of five years.
The Government has been engaged in discussions with Saudi authorities to secure an increase in the quota allocated to the Maldives, with the aim of reducing waiting times, enhancing the quality of service, and boosting public confidence in the services provided by the Maldives Hajj Corporation Limited.
