First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed inaugurated the National Mental Health Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029 at a ceremony held on Wednesday evening at the Ministry of Health.
The National Mental Health Strategic Action Plan includes numerous measures to strengthen the mental health system in the Maldives for the next five years. The plan focuses on strengthening the mental health system by enhancing mental health services, expanding treatment facilities and promoting overall mental wellbeing.
Key components of the plan include integrating mental health services into primary healthcare, raising mental health awareness and support, formulating policies, standards and guidelines, improving the skills of healthcare professionals and addressing prejudice against mental illness, including efforts to eliminate stigma. It particularly prioritises the mental health of people of different ages, especially children, the elderly and other vulnerable groups. Furthermore, it also encourages collaborative efforts among all stakeholders to foster a society of mentally strong and capable individuals.
Tackling mental health issues and improving the mental wellbeing of citizens remains a key priority for the Administration and the President.
