President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the development and operationalisation of the Fisheries Complex being built in HA. Ihavandhoo will create 150 jobs and further develop the fishing industry.
The President made these remarks while speaking at a meeting with the residents of Ihavandhoo.
During this meeting, the President noted that Ihavandhoo is a fishing community and highlighted that the Fisheries Complex project, whose foundation has been laid, is important for the future of the industry. The President assured the public that the project, which will begin construction in May this year, will be completed within 18 months.
Under this project, President Dr Muizzu said that there will be a 1000-tonne cold storage capacity and 50-tonne brine freezing capacity facility. He also mentioned that a jetty and harbour with three fish landing points will be built at the complex to facilitate fish unloading.
The President noted that this project, costing a total of MVR 474 million, is an important initiative for the prosperity and development of the Maldivians.
President Dr Muizzu emphasised that his Presidential goal is to find solutions for people's needs and that all state work is structured under this principle, as he addressed the housing shortage issue in Ihavandhoo. He announced that under the current housing project, 200 housing units will be contracted for construction in the island.
During the ceremony, National ID card and passport services were introduced in Ihavandhoo, and the Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) officially handed over ATM establishment work to the island council. Additionally, agreements were signed for a modern hospital, development of football grounds, and the Ihavandhoo Huravee Outdoor Volley Court.
Before meeting with the residents, the President participated in foundation-laying ceremonies for the new Police Station and the new Council Secretariat building in Ihavandhoo.
