President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the development of an airport in HA. Dhihdhoo is an important aspect of regional development, assuring that the airport project will come to fruition.

He made the announcement whilst speaking to the residents of Dhihdhoo island as part of his tour of the atoll.

In his address, the President said that practical work for the commencement of the project was already underway. Discussions were ongoing with MTCC and foreign parties on reaching a framework agreement to start work on the project.

Land reclamation will commence this year, with concurrent projects to follow. Reiterating that the airport project will commence, the President pledged that his next visit to the island will be on the airport's maiden flight to officially inaugurate it.

Development, he said, was not based on political ideology, adding that all citizens were equal. The President further said that political ideology was irrelevant to him and separate from developmental priorities. Any developmental goals, he said, were long-term and serious work.

Noting that his Administration was focused on holistic, citizen-centric policies and attaining results, the President said other pressing needs of the island would also be met. The President pledged to develop the island's harbour, create an international-level football ground and upgrade Dhihdhoo hospital, housing and fisheries sectors. The President also assured that WAMCO services would be introduced to the island before the start of Ramadan this year.
