Describing the establishment of public works units as an investment, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the establishment of public works units in each administrative atoll.
Addressing the residential community of Maakurathu Island in North Maalhosmadulu atoll, the President stated that at least one public works unit would be established in each atoll. Reflecting on the long-term advantages of having public works units in each atoll, the President assured that these would not be wasted funds. He reassured instead, having a public works unit to supervise infrastructure development would be more cost efficient in the long-run.
In addition to nationwide public works unit, the President announced two mobile public works units in the North and South of the country; a project earmarked in the 2025 State Budget.
In his speech, the President highlighted developmental efforts directed at Maakurathu as well. Noting that many developmental dreams of the community are yet to be realised, the President assured that work will proceed in accordance with the desires of the public and guaranteed tangible results. These include, the completion of the harbour development project and the establishment of public works sites.
The President also shared his vision to address issues related to education and healthcare raised by the community, under the 2025 State Budget. Shedding light on the importance of sports on wellbeing, the President reassured, that fitness and recreation facilities would be developed on the island. One such measure would be development of a futsal ground on the island, this year.
In conclusion, the President expressed hope that his next visit would be to celebrate the completion of developmental efforts.
In his tour of North Maalhosmadulu atoll, the President visited eleven islands.
