President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with the R. Maakurathu Island Council, Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and heads of institutions on Thursday to deliberate on the developmental needs and aspirations of the residential community. The meeting was held at the Secretariate of Maakurathu Council.
During the meeting, the Council shared the developmental plan and the challenges they face in achieving those goals. Speaking at the meeting, the Council members noted that the community wants the harbor project to be completed as soon as possible. They also requested to resolve the issues with the water and sewerage service system. The Council member highlighted the challenges faced by schools on the island due to the lack of a special educational needs (SEN) teacher and emphasised the importance of adding multi-purpose halls. Additionally, the Council members discussed the support needed for the development of the sports sector, including a fitness and recreation center and a new futsal ground. Furthermore, they shed light on the current situation at the island's Health Centre.
Speaking at the meeting, the President provided additional information about the developmental plans for the island through his accompanying delegation of Cabinet Ministers and senior Government officials.
Prior to the Council meeting, the President visited the Maakurath Health Centre, where he toured the place and inquired about the current situation. He also attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Council Secretariat building.
