President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that an agreement has been reached with the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to undertake the Fainu Airport development project in February. He made this announcement while addressing the residents of Fainu on Thursday afternoon during his tour of the islands in North Maalhosmadulu Atoll.
During the meeting, the President disclosed that the airport development efforts would proceed in tandem with the water and sanitation project, ensuring that both projects progress simultaneously without hindrance. He emphasised that this development represents a crucial economic opportunity for the island and the atoll and constitutes a significant investment in the tourism sector. The President expressed his anticipation that his next visit to the island would be for the inauguration of the airport.
During the event, the Bank of Maldives and Fainu Island Council signed an agreement to establish an ATM on the island.
