President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with members of R. Un’goofaaru Island Council, Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and heads of institutions on Tuesday to discuss the developmental needs of the island community. The meeting was held at the Secretariat of the North Maalhosmadulu Atoll Council.

Speaking at the meeting, council members requested the President to expedite ongoing developmental efforts and initiate new projects for the island. They emphasised the need for a housing project and resolving space constraints at the school by constructing additional classrooms. They also highlighted the need for the development of a commercial harbour to realise the envisioned changes in line with the President’s pledge to develop the island as an Urban Centre. Additionally, they relayed their needs for establishing a campus for the Maldives National University (MNU) on the island, a TVET Centre, and an office building consolidating government services under a single roof.

Speaking at the meeting, President Dr Muizzu assured that the concerns highlighted would be addressed. Cabinet Ministers accompanying the President provided additional information about the developmental plans for the island.
