President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that contract signing with a Chinese party for the establishment of a fish factory in GDh Fiyoari will be held in February. He made the statement addressing the residents of the island, as part of his ongoing visit to the Atoll.
He noted that the fishermen of the island faced significant difficulties in weighing their catch at the Kooddoo Fisheries Complex, citing that he sought to pledge and fulfill those pledges made to citizens.
As such, President Dr Muizzu said that once signed, the Chinese contractor will begin work on the creation of a facility in the island that will be able to weigh 3000 tonnes of fish. This facility, he elaborated, will have the daily capacity to pack 100 tonnes of canned fish, as well as provide 3000 tonnes of cold storage and a 50 tonne ice plant.
Referring to the concerns raised by Fiyoari authorities, the President said priority will be given to renovating the school hall, in addition to creating a multipurpose hall, classrooms and lab.
The President also said the citizens had raised the issue of accessibility to ATM services. This, he assured, will be addressed. The President assured that the waste management system of the island would be addressed as well.
