President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has restructured the responsibilities of some ministries following today’s Cabinet changes, made under the authority granted by Article 116(a) of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives. The announcement was made in Directive 25/2024 from the President's Office.
According to the directive, Ministry of Finance which has been restructured as Ministry of Finance and Planning will now oversee land utilisation, urban development, national development planning, and statistics—responsibilities that were previously managed by the Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development.
Following the dissolution of the Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development, the Maldives Bureau of Statistics will now operate under the Ministry of Finance and Planning, effective immediately.
Additionally, the Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure, formerly known as the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, will now be responsible for carrying out social housing projects and formulating housing policies, including those related to social housing.
With the new changes in effect, all correspondence directed to the Ministry of Finance and Planning will now use the number 13, and all correspondence directed to the Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure will use the number 491.
The appointment letters were presented to the Cabinet Ministers at a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Thursday morning. After taking their oaths and signing the oath of office, the President met with the Ministers and urged them to structure the operations of the newly formed ministries in a way that minimises disruption for staff being transferred.
