President Dr Mohamed Muizzu arrived in Male’ this afternoon after concluding his visit to some islands in South Ari Atoll.
The President visited several islands in south Ari Atoll and met with the people, councils and Women Development Committees.
Issues related to island development and what the people want the most were discussed. He also visited health centres and schools in the islands and observed the situation there.
Addressing the people during his visit, he announced several important initiatives. While addressing residents of Dhan'gethi, the President announced that Women's Development Committee members will receive a Ramadan allowance starting next year. The President also discussed the newly ratified Foreign Currency Bill. He emphasised that the legislation would benefit the public once enacted by permitting dollar transactions and doubling credit card limits.
During his visit, he also said that as soon as the technical work to amend the regulations, which require a certain percentage of the local tourism revenue to be deposited in the councils, is completed, it will be introduced in Parliament so that taxes from tourism can be made directly available to the councils, thereby giving them greater financial power.
Referring to the fire that destroyed three Government ministries, he said that his Government would continue to overcome its obstacles and challenges and encouraged the affected employees and the people.
This is the last of a series of visits that the President has embarked on this year to meet and interact with all the country's councils. During this trip, the President announced that he plans to visit all the country's islands in 2025. A high-level Government delegation accompanied him during the trip.
