Vice President His Excellency Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has departed on an official visit to China to participate in the ‘Third China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Blue Economy Development Cooperation.’

The Vice President’s visit to Kunming, Yunnan Province, is to attend the forum which the Maldives is co-hosting, scheduled from December 15-17. This event, organised by the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), aims to enhance cooperation between China and Indian Ocean region countries, focusing on various aspects of the blue economy, including climate change and sustainable development.

The third forum, themed ‘Future of the Blue Indian Ocean: Development Practices of the Global South,’ will feature diverse thematic discussions, subforums, and roundtable discussions on topics of mutual interest to participants from across the globe.

The Vice President is attending the Forum at the invitation of the Government of China, and will deliver a statement in its opening ceremony. The Vice President also participated in the 2nd China-Indian Ocean Region Forum, held in December 2023 in China.
