President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has ratified the Third Amendment to the Anti-Corruption Commission Act (Act No. 13/2008), introducing significant changes to the procedure governing the appointment and resignation of the Commission’s President and Vice President. This bill was passed by the People's Majlis during its 53rd session of the 20th Parliament held on Monday, 25 November 2024.
Under this Amendment, the President is required to appoint both the Commission’s President and Vice President from among its members. These appointments will require approval by the People’s Majlis, with a majority vote of members present and voting during a parliamentary session.
The Amendment ensures that the current President and Vice President will continue to remain in their positions unless removed in accordance with the law.
The Amendment also revises the resignation procedure, stipulating that the President and Vice President of the Commission must submit their resignation in writing to the President.
The Amendment will take effect following its ratification and publication in the Government Gazette.
