Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has announced that the government will improve fire and rescue capabilities, provide advanced technology, and reliable facilities at Velana International Airport, in line with the President's plan to enhance and expand the main airport in the Maldives. He made the statement during the inaugural ceremony of the new fire station at Velana International Airport this evening.

Highlighting the significance of the tourism sector as a cornerstone of the Maldives' economy, the Vice President underscored the crucial role of the airport's fire and rescue service in ensuring the safety and security of civil aviation. He also noted that the increase in foreign flights to the Maldives and the confidence in the airport's security underscored the importance of their efforts. He further commended the dedication of the workers and encouraged them to persevere in their endeavours.

A solemn moment of silence was observed in memory of the late Ahmed Fayaz, who devoted 31 years to the emergency services and fire rescue sector in the Maldives. Late Ahmed Fayaz made significant contributions to the expansion of fire and rescue services in the Maldives and played a crucial role in developing the new fire and rescue station inaugurated by the Vice President today. He worked diligently to train people for fire and rescue services.
